Did you know it takes most people with Parkinson's Disease a year for doctors to diagnose the disease. Informal polls have shown that doctors do not recognize symptoms of PD right away. Many people with PD suffer through treatment for other diseases before finding the true diagnoses.

In Idaho, deaths from complications from PD are reported as the twelfth leading cause of death compared to a national rate of fourteenth. This may be due to a higher incidence of PD or a decrease in the care given to Idaho PD patients. In either case, Idaho would benefit from a greater understanding of the disease.

It is the mission of the Idaho Parkinson's disease Support Group to: "To provide relief from the suffering and symptoms of Parkinson's Disease" This mission does not exclude the suffering of family and caregivers of people with Parkinson's. It's our hope that we will be able to:

  • Secure tax exempt status from the IRS
  • Garner support from revenue generating sources
  • Provide electronic and printed educational media throughout Idaho
  • Consolidate and provide access to PD resources
  • Organize and facilitate a scheduled work group on Idaho PD issues
  • Affiliate with recognized national and international organizations
  • Support research toward elimination of suffering from PD
